anotace Medieval town fortifications in Slovakia are often in disrepair or in condition which is not their social significance. By the end of the 18th century they lost their defensive function, which caused their ruined state. It's not just material fragmentation of individual objects, but also the loss of perception of the town's fortifications as a whole. This fragmentation and uncertainty of relations should be seen as one of the fundamental problems of the comprehensible presentation and interpretation of this typological class. We can talk about systematic restoration of urban fortifications in Slovakia up to the 70s of the 20th century. Fortifications were not perceived as urban collections, but attention was focused on the most valuable preserved elements. During the past 25 years, the approach has changed considerably. The restoration and presentation of fortifications and their areas are accessed sequentially. Several cities have developed conceptual materials for restoration of town fortifications that despite the passage of time enable them to fulfill appointed framework method of monument restoration, which aims to unite the town fortification complex as a whole. Preserving methods are strongly preferred. They are applied mainly to authentically maintained monuments. Other methods of recovery are used for objects that have been renewed in the past. Exact reconstruction is more used in the correction of inappropriate interventions implemented during the previous restorations. Various types of reconstruction methods and suggestions are generally used at extinct parts to improve the legibility of the original situation.
